Mack Truck, Inc. was originally founded all the way back at the turn of the century in the year 1900 as the Mack Brothers Company. The Mack brothers inspiration to become the leader in heavy duty trucks actually sprang from the innovative journey of the Wright brothers path to flight. However, the Macks got their humble start building buses and trolleys. It wasn’t until 1909 that they sold their first truck meant for hauling, the Manhattan truck. This was the first truck that was dubbed a “mack” truck. Mack trucks also served in varying capacities for US and British troops in both WWI and WWII and continued to build different types of trucks such as fire trucks and buses throughout the 1900s. Mack’s early beginning led to it’s dominant performance in the marketplace that, even today, keeps it as a household name across the US.

When you are buying a Mack truck it important to way what type of specifications are most necessary for your tasks. For example, while Pinnacle and Anthem both serve similar functions as semi-trucks, when driving cross-country the extra sleeping space of the Anthem could provide not only a more enjoyable trip with more sleep, but also a safer one in the long run. Similarly, distance and weight play a large role in selecting which type of dump truck you may be looking to purchase. Going with the Granite MHD will maximize fuel efficiency and speed while it’s slightly larger-framed partner will allow you to haul a heavy load. Another major issue to consider when purchasing your Mack truck is whether to buy new or used. Everyone lose the smell and shine of a new truck purchase, however, the best value typically comes through the used market. Websites like mascus.com may have some viable used options for your Mack truck search.

When most people hear Mack they think of semi-trucks, but Mack brings some serious variety to the towing table. While their semi-styled Pinnacle model is an industry staple, it’s bigger brother, the Anthem sports a 70” inch StandUp Sleeper that is so luxurious it even has space for a flat screen TV. Mack also features the durable Granite and Granite MHD. The MHD (or Medium Heavy Duty) is a more light-weight truck designed for hauling smaller dump truck or flatbed loads. When it comes to hauling in a slightly tougher terrains, Mack proposes its TerraPro. This cabover truck has a thick build and is made for a maximum payload on its frame. lastly, for strictly on-road use Mack created the ultimate street navigator, the LR. Along with its low-to-ht-ground ride, the LR actually comes with two steering wheels, one on each side of the cab to allow its operators to complete tight turns with pinpoint accuracy.

Due to Mack’s overwhelming historical significance in the US, it is no surprise that these marvelous machines have their own museum. The Mack Truck Historical Museum, located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, features a display of some of Mack’s influential trucks of the past as well as a walkthrough timeline of the major steps from 1900 that created the powerhouse that they are today.
